“To seek vulnerable population & high risk groups in depressed demographics and provide a set up to meet health, learning & recreational needs, acquire life & vocational skills and build a positive attitude equipping them to become ethical, literate and productive global citizens”.
Introduction
Sustainable Intervention Drive (SID) is a conceptual framework to develop social ecosystems, act as a service provider for organization, institutions, groups and individuals to interact and collaborate on scalable, replicable and sustainable participatory development models.
Overview
In the year 2013 the concept of SID took shape in the villages of Vehari, a district in the province of Southern Punjab, Pakistan. Small projects for marginalized communities were successfully implemented. These included setting up stitching units, working with women in small brick kiln factories (Bhatta), facilitating minority Christian community, working on jail inmates including setting up the jail library, computer center and provision of free legal services, providing interest free microfinance loans, facilitating education, clean water projects, food and clothing drives, work in flood affected areas and several other initiatives. Gaining confidence SID moved from villages and small towns to the environs of urban Lahore. Work was done on libraries for SOS Children’s villages and uplift of orphans, slum dwellers, transgenders, mentally and physically challenged, drug addicts, work was also done in old homes and hospitals. In recent years communities in Yasin, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral and a village near Larkana, Sindh were also facilitated. From these small-scale interventions, the idea was developed to make replicable, scalable and sustainable intervention models.
